Will you Make a Good Nurse? HomeThis is a featured page

Being a nurse is more than just a profession. It is a calling and that is the reason why not everybody can be a nurse. Yes, it may be financially rewarding but a person whose only drive to become a nurse is to earn money will not succeed. It is essential to want to serve and to truly care for your patients. A nurse needs to have those basics. Being a nurse does not automatically make you a good one. Do you have the qualities of a good nurse You must first answer this question before attempting to get a CNA training.

Communication is a skill every nurse should have. Communication is not all about speaking. It is a two-way process. You must be able to listen as well. You must have the ability to communicate with your patients. They must not just hear but understand when their patients are saying something. At the same time, they must be able to explain the medical condition of the patient in layman's terms. Of course, good communication with their superior and colleagues is important as well.

Nursing can be very stressful. Happy endings in TV shows like Grey's Anatomy are not exactly what always happen in the practice of real life nurses. Suffering and death is an unescapable part of the job. Nurses should be emotionally stable. No one wants a nurse without emotions but neither do we want one who panics under pressure. They need a level head in order to properly deal with extremely stressful situations.

Nurses should really care about their patients. They need to feel how their patient is feeling. They must know what their patient is going through. That is the only way to improve customer care. In fact, being empathic of your patient's suffering can do wonders for patient care. Be careful though because it is possible to get tired of empathizing. You have to recognize it so you can deal with it. File for a leave if you really need a break. You can offer better patient care once you're back.

Do you have the qualities of a good nurse? Are you a good communicator? Are you level headed even during stressful situations? Do you show genuine concern for your patients?
